Grammar Corner: Auxiliary verbs

Auxiliary verbs are also known as helping verbs because they are used along with main verb to aid in showing tense or indicate a question or negative state of the action.

  • The dog is invading the neighbor’s yard.
  • Do you believe in magic?
  • The students haven’t received their test scores for this semester.

Common auxiliary verbs:  have, be, and do
