Grammar Corner: Action verbs

Action verbs are the type of verb that most people think of when someone mentions the word “verb.”

Simply, an action verb tells the action of a noun.

John answered the ad in the paper.

Most action verbs fall into the category of either transitive or intransitive.

  • Transitive Verb – Joe will sculpt the bust for the museum.
  • Intransitive Verb – Anne of Green Gables talks incessantly.
