www.Science4Us.: Review

My daughter and I checked out www.Science4Us.com which is an online standards-based elementary science curriculum primarily geared toward K through 2nd grade. One can also use it for a review for 3rd through 5th grade if needed.

You can view a sample of this curriculum. The parent or teacher can assign modules and monitor progress and grades for each student. As a parent, it provides a greater level of comfort that your child is going through topics so that you don’t have to do the guesswork and have any doubts they are learning topics that they need. It also can be used to supplement whatever curriculum you use as your main one. Your child has access to animated lessons which contain songs, simulations, games, off-line activities. One of my favorite details of science4us is having individual terms being broken down by animation into syllables so that a child can learn to spell them in a more visual way. This curriculum teaches using a visual experience making it ideal for younger children.

As homeschoolers or parents who are looking into providing their children with more science you can purchase it for $7.95 a month per student. It contains over 350 online lessons and activities which also build on math and language arts skills. For homeschoolers, it has “automated reporting for homeschool portfolios.”

My youngest who is actually an 8th grader used this program over the course of a month to try it out and give her opinion. Essentially, she felt that she would have enjoyed this curriculum as a kindergartner. Rather than just using books or hands on materials, having the control of an online program makes it more personal and allows your child to feel more in control of their learning.

For elementary science, as a homeschooling parent, I would recommend this program. From our experience, the program seems well laid out and easy to navigate which is important for a younger student.
