Back to Homeschool Blog Hop: Planning for the year

BacktoHomeschool

For the third day of the Back to Homeschool Blog Hop, we are all going to discuss Homeschool planning.

Each year I start off going over my curriculum choices which you can read about from my previous day of our blog hop. I always review my overall goals that I keep before me not only at the start but throughout our school year. I basically keep things fairly simple. I may refer to several homeschooling books and websites that I keep for references about scope and sequences and planning but mainly I just take a simple planner page and write in a general plan of what I want to cover and how long I plan on having my kids work on each topic and subject area.

I know there are folks that put a lot of time and effort into planning their school year but I prefer to just have a general outline because I know for us things change and often do. This coming year I will plan on using the schedules that come with our A Beka curriculum to use as a guide but other than that I will start each week out by looking over what resources we have available and what we want to focus on for that week. Believe it or not we get much more done this way. This way probably works for us because we follow a more eclectic relaxed homeschool approach. I know this drives some people crazy but I know other homeschoolers understand and can relate to our planning methods.

I hope that you check out the other Blog posts on today’s Blog Hop to find out more about homeschool planning as we all start preparing for another homeschool year.
