The Grace Effect: How the Power of One Life Can Reverse the Corruption of Unbelief- Review and Giveaway!!

The book, The Grace Effect by Larry Alex Taunton, has been given to  me in order to provide my readers my honest review.  I also have one copy to give away to one of my readers.

I was provided the following information about the book.

About The Grace Effect:

Simply defined, the ‘grace effect’ is an observable phenomenon—that life is demonstrably better where authentic Christianity flourishes.

What does Christianity give us beyond televangelists, potlucks, and bad basketball leagues?  Not much, according to the secular Left.  The world, they say, would be a better place without it.

Historian and Christian apologist Larry Taunton has spent much of his career refuting just this sort of thinking, but when he encounters Sasha, a golden-haired orphan girl whose life has been shaped by atheistic theorists, he discovers an unlikely champion for the transforming power of grace.

Through the narrative of Sasha’s redemption, we see the false promises of socialism; the soul-destroying influence of unbelief; and how a society cultivates its own demise when it rejects the ultimate source of grace.  We see, in short, the kind of world the atheists would give us: a world without Christianity—cold, pitiless, and graceless.

And yet, as Sasha shows us, it is a world that is not beyond the healing power of “the grace effect.”  Occasionally infuriating, often amusing, but always inspiring, The Grace Effect will have you cheering for the courageous little girl who shamed the academic elitists of our day.

Now on to my personal thoughts about the Grace Effect.   In the beginning the book begins with a conversation that is taking place between the  author, Larry Alex Taunton who is Executive Director of Fixed Point Foundation, and Christopher Hitchens who is a known atheist and author/journalist.  They are discussing whether or not Christianity is needed in today’s society.  It is so easy for a discussion like this to become one that is truly only academic and sterile in nature but the Grace Effect carries this discussion into the realm of realism.  Through the narrative of the adoption journey told by Mr. Taunton, we are given a glimpse into the world that atheists would have us live in, one void of Christianity and thus of God.   We  see what a world which is short on Christian grace is like in order to see the effects that grace has on the individual and in turn on society itself.   One quote from the book truly impressed me,  “As one experiences grace in his own life, he extends grace to others.”    The Grace Effect is not primarily an academic work but a narrative that we can learn from much like the parables of the Bible.  A story to teach us about the Grace Effect.  A story to show us what a world without Christianity would be like.  As today’s world moves toward distancing itself from God, we see the  effect of such a world and  in turn can see clearer the need for Christianity.
