Aletheia Writing Magazine: Review

Aletheia Logo - Blue Border

Our world is full of images and messages that do not always portray things in a positive light. Watching the world of entertainment and perusing the shelves at the library, occasionally coming across what it being played on the radio on secular stations, as a Christian parent I know how difficult it is to filter out what is decent and wholesome. In the times we live, the message of hope and truth takes a backseat often to what is dark and sinister, what is improper, and to things that are mostly negative. Teens who are creative in either artistic or literary forms do not always have a good example set before them in the world not to mention from their peers. Until recently, I have not seen any place which caters to their art or their literature. After I received a free copy of the Fall 2011 Aletheia Writing Magazine, I realized there now was  such a venue for teens.
Aletheia Spring 2011 Magazine Cover

Aletheia Writing Magazine is primarily a magazine for Christian youth which publishes their literary works in addition to their art work and photography.  In this magazine, you can read and view submissions from Christian teens from ages 13 though 19.  The submission guidelines are very clear and provide details on what type of subject matter they are looking to publish.  Aletheia magazine expects submissions to include hope in their message especially  if  the writer decides to explore the dark side of life.  You also will not read something that is preachy or sentimental from the submissions. The literary pieces I have read in the Fall 2011 edition are very well-written and thought-provoking works in various genres and on many topics. The magazine includes a good mixture of poetry, stories, photography and art work in addition to book reviews all done by teens. Included in the edition I received was an interview from a graphic artist, a section entitled Ancient Ink which includes famous quotes from earlier centuries, a writer’s challenge, a featured contributor, and a nature photo section.

You can view a full sample of the Spring 2011 issue HERE on the Aletheia magazine website.

What a wonderful venue for Christian teens to express their creativity, see their works published, read and view what other teens have to offer and get encouragement for their skills and talents. The Aletheia magazine website also has an excellent writing tips section on their website HERE.

If your teen is interested in writing or art then Aletheia Writing Magazine would make a wonderful gift for them. You can subscribe for $26 each year (shipping and handling included) and you receive 4 issues. Each magazine has 40 pages of very high quality paper.  This was important to me because too many magazines use cheap flimsy paper but Aletheia Writing Magazine’s pages were sturdy and of high quality.

You can check out what my fellow TOS Homeschool members also had to say about this magazine by going to our crew blog page HERE.

Note: I received this product for free as a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew in order to provide an honest review for my readers.
