Science Weekly: review

Science Weekly is a publication which is available with 6 different reading and comprehension levels for grades K- 6th. Each issue covers a different topic and has vocabulary, math, writing, a lab type experiment as well as other fun things to do. Each one is in a newsprint format about 4 pages long. The right size to provide enough information and activities without your child becoming overwhelmed or bored with the topic materiel. My family received an issue to review that deals with composting. My two kids have both been reading the issue which is at their level and doing the activities within it. My youngest really enjoys the issue she got and has been bringing up some of the interesting facts and information she has learned from her copy. I have even heard from my oldest which is encouraging since she normally does not do that unless something really interests her. From what we have seen from just the one issue we have, it appears to cover a science topic such as composting quite well at an appropriate reading and comprehension level for the age it is targeted. Since I received all of the levels , I could compare how the same topic was handled for different age groups. The publication includes a teacher edition which includes information about the topic so that you are informed about what your kids are reading as well as questions to initiate a conversation about your topic and also follow-up questions. It includes the answer keys for the activities in the kids’ edition as well as information on the lab/activity they are doing.
