Through our years homeschooling, our family has used various unit studies but none like ones from The Old Schoolhouse: Curiosity Files™. We received the Curiosity Files™ unit study on Blue Diamonds to review as a member of the TOS Homeschool crew and immediately loved it.

The Curiosity Files™ unit studies takes one of God’s wonders that you normally would not think of studying in a unit study and creates a well-rounded study complete with all disciplines such as math, writing, spelling, science, history, Bible, and even music and some art. We received the Blue Diamond unit study which is only one of the nine studies available. Others are Dung Beetle, MRSA, Puffer Fish, Red Tide, Zombie Fire Ants, Blue-Footed Booby, Cicada Killing Wasp, and Quicksand.

My kids and I learned a lot about blue diamonds and had a lot of fun doing it. My kids barely knew we were “doing school.” They requested to do something each day from the unit study.

I really loved how this unit study was so packed full of information and covered all the different subjects too. You can work at your own pace and it includes work for lower and upper grades. Both my younger and older kids were able to work on the study together and do age appropriate work from it. I even managed to learn more and enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm my kids had while working through this study. I loved the character, Professor Ana Lyze, which made this unit study that more unique over others. It kind of reminded me of the Magic School Bus series which everyone in our home also loves. The Curiosity Files unit studies has something for all ages from 8-13 but honestly I think kids from outside that age range would enjoy and learn from using these studies too. Within the studies there are articles about the topic with beautiful illustrations, Bible studies and related memory work, copy work pages, math problems, science experiments, art and craft activities, spelling words, learning checkpoints, writing assignments, suggestions for literature and books, links to websites for researching more on the topic and many other things to do as well. I was very impressed with how much was packed in the 91 pages for this unit study.
