Then Sings My Soul: 150 of the World’s Greatest Hymn Stories by Robert J. Morgan is a collection of hymns from various historical time periods complete with the sheet music and lyrics with about a one page story about the hymn itself. The hymns in this book are divided into a section either by Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Patriotic and Other Favorites. You can also find your favorite hymn in the indices in the back of the book. The indices are set up alphabetically by title, by author/songwriter, and according to the first line of the hymn which makes it easy to find a specific hymn. My family enjoyed reading a hymn each day according to what season we were celebrating. What would make this book even better for me would be if it included a cd with each hymn so you could hear and sing along in case you do not already know the hymn. Since we homeschool, I used the book as part of our music lessons for my kids. I found the music for each hymn online or through a collection I already owned and we listened and often sang along in addition to reading the story behind the hymn itself. The book is written as a type of devotional so it could also be used in this way as well. I believe every Christian would enjoy learning more about the hymns and use it as a tool for worshiping God in their own homes.
