Virtual Nerd: Online Math and Science Help
Do you often wish you had a private tutor you could access when you needed one?
Do you wish that tutor had every answer to your question and you could pause and backtrack what they showed you instantly? Or even could fast forward through something?
I was introduced to an online subscription program called Virtual Nerd as a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew.
Although Virtual Nerd says that their program is not meant to replace a private tutor or teacher, it does make an excellent supplement to what you are currently doing.
With a subscription to their website you have access to both math and science instructional videos at the click of a mouse. What difference is this site compared to others you might ask? These videos are very student friendly and easy to comprehend and follow. Also while you view the video, there is a side area where you also view the diagrams, equations, and drawings that go along with the current video. You can click on a specific part of a problem or concept and immediately go to that area of the video. So if you already understand the first part of what is being talked about you do not have to sit through and waste valuable time and can jump straight to problem areas to get help. Also you can replay areas that maybe you missed the first time around. Sound cool? It is.
Virtual Nerd is basically targeted for grades 7-12 though if you have kids starting out in pre-algebra earlier than 7th grade, it would be helpful to them as well. There were areas my daughter has not started with yet but it actually was good for her to watch some of the videos to see what is coming up next before she ventures into those areas of math and science.
Currently there are videos for Pre-Algebra through Algebra 2 and for Conceptual Physics. Other areas of math and science are projected to be available this year. Virtual Nerd is also planning to add textbook searches, play-lists, and practice problems making it a growing website that is adding new subject matter material as well as functionality to its offerings.
