At the  beginning of each school year, the focus of our Bible devotions centers on a few of the Psalms. I was really excited to find out that I was going to receive a free copy of Young Hearts Longing for God : A Pre-Inductive Bible Study of the Psalms for Younger Students from Soli Deo Gloria Resources in order to do a review as a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew.

This study of 30 Psalms is targeted for 3rd through 5th grades but can be done by younger students with assistance and older students as well. The format of the study is to read the Psalm then do the questions and activities throughout the week in order to complete the entire study within the year. However you can tailor it for whatever works with your children.

In order to do this study, each child needs a copy of the study pages, either a spiral notebook or loose lined paper in a binder, and colored pencils.

What worked for us was to read the Psalm on Monday and complete the activity that involves underlining specific words and phrases in the Psalm as directed in the instructions. On the next day, we worked on completing the questions, and finally on a third day we completed the journal assignment.

We are really enjoying the Psalm study and are planning on continuing with it through this school year. It is easy to fit into our schedule and does not take a lot of time to complete the questions and activities for each Psalm. This study made the Psalms more relevant for my kids through the journal activity done for each Psalm, since it required them to think about how they can apply it to their own lives. There is also a study checklist included so that you can check off what has been completed in order to check their progress.
