I had previously looked into purchasing Digital Frog’s virtual dissection product, Digital Frog, as an option for us in the High School years so I was surprised to find out that the company, Digital Frog International, also has field trip CDs. I received a copy of The Digital Field Trip Series DVD from them in order to review it as a member of the TOS homeschool crew.

The first thing I did was to grab the DVD and put in in our laptop. I then hooked up our laptop to our TV so that we could all sit around a bigger screen to view this product. The Field Trip Series contains all three field trips that Digital Frog offers: The Wetlands, The Rainforest, and the Desert. I allowed my kids to choose which ones we wanted to explore and they chose the Wetlands field trip. I let them have control of the mouse so they could just explore the DVD. I can tell you there is a ton of things to read, videos to watch, photos to look at, games and quizzes to play. I just cannot honestly tell you about everything that is available on each of the field trips contained in this DVD series because there is so much to do on the DVD that we are still exploring it. My kids were both fighting over who would have a turn and for how long they would get to use it. We can’t possibly physically visit a rainforest or a desert so it was really exciting to have a virtual tour that this DVD makes available to my kids just with a click of a mouse. The DVD also has workbook materials for you to use in addition to the many other features on the DVD. So far we have taken a virtual field trip of the wetlands, played a food web game, read and watched videos about the many inhabitants of the wetlands habitat and viewed many wonderful photos. We are working on learning about scientific classifications in more depth this year and we are able to use the information in these field trips to help add to our notebooks through all the information provided within each area of the DVD.
