Recently I read a book, from Zoe and Sozo Publishing called Foundlings by Matthew Christian Harding in order to provide my honest review of it as part of the TOS Homeschool Crew. This novel is part one in a series called The Peleg Chronicles.





Foundlings is cited as a historical fiction that takes place in the time after the dispersion of the Tower of Babel. The main characters in the novel are Lord McDougal and his faithful shield-bearer, Fergus Leatherhead, who set out on an adventure where they encounter giants, false prophets, dwarfs, dragons and many others as they fight to protect the innocent and tell others about God. The author tells his story interspersed with Biblical references and values that are from a young earth view of Christianity. Refreshingly, there is no attempt to hide the fact that the author’s beliefs do not include evolution and a humanistic view of the world. Also magic is not dealt with in this novel other than what might have and had occurred in Biblical times and even today such as having living sacrifices being a part of false religions. Because it deals with some material that may be too mature for younger readers, this book is more geared toward ages 12 and up.

The story line did start out slowly for me but after I kept reading I became more involved with the characters and their physical quests as well as their personal inner struggles. There is much going on at various levels where you can read this book as a piece of fiction for entertainment as well as reflect on what is being said about Christianity and Biblical values and truth in a more in-depth study of this book. I personally cannot wait to get the next book in the series and continue to see how these characters and the story line develop further in this series.
