My kids are both always wanting to learn to play instruments so I was thrilled for the opportunity to review Jean Welles Worship Guitar class sent to us for free as part of The TOS Homeschool Crew.
Jean Welles holds a Master’s degree in Guitar Performance from USC. The DVD and instructional manual are well done and integrate learning the guitar with a focus on God throughout the lessons. The music used in this class are worship songs instead of the typical secular music seen in most other classes. My oldest was able to follow the lessons and learn various chords as well as play some simple songs even with her having very little prior experience before watching this DVD. While my daughter has not gone completely though the whole DVD class she has enjoyed what she has done so far and has started to pick up learning the guitar through the Volume 1 book and class we received. The only drawback to the DVD itself is it goes too quickly for my daughter and we have spent a lot of time rewinding through the DVD and pausing in order to be able to do what is currently being taught. The only thing that I would improve upon this DVD class is for the instructor to show what is being learned and have a big enough break for the student to at least have ample time to pause the DVD. Since that is minor compared to the quality and content of the DVD. I would still recommend this to anyone who is looking for an instructional class. Jean Welles’ Worship Guitar class series is fairly low cost compared to having to pay for one on one or group lessons. It is a good way for someone to see if the guitar is something your child wants to commit further study to without the money and commitment involved in face to face instructions. Also you can take your time and go at your own pace whereas face to face lessons require you to commit to a specific time frame.

I also liked that Jean Welles adds tips on learning the guitar as well as focuses the student on their relationship with God in the lessons. The Volume One Book and DVD set for Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class is the beginning of a 4-volume set that is geared for ages 10 to adult. They also have Jean Welles Worship
Guitar Class™ for Kids which is for ages 5 and up. However my 6 year old was also able to learn some from the Volume 1 set that we received.
