Yet another item that I received for free to review is from Tektoma.

What they offer is an online subscription to a website that offers tutorials and resources that allow you to learn to develop online games using GameMaker software. The GameMaker software is free to download the basic version and the Tektoma website provides tutorials to walk you through using the software to make games. It is geared to kids age 7-17 but anyone can benefit from the tutorials and website.

The tutorials are very well done and explain things clearly and concisely. I was very impressed with the ones we have viewed so far. My oldest created an arcade game while watching the tutorials and the resources that are provided through GameMaker’s downloads.

The website is only $14.95 per month or $140 a year for access. You can download the GameMaker software for free but Tektoma’s tutorials help to make it easy to learn to use the software and make your own games. Once you begin with a beginner level tutorial you can move on to a more complex tutorial. Tektoma mentions that new curriculum are available monthly.

If you are interested in Tektoma’s website you can do a free 14 day trial from their website by becoming a member and canceling within the 14 days. 14 days is enough time to determine if the Tektoma services are something that would benefit you.
