TOS Homeschool Crew Review: Gymathtics
Exploramania sent me a free copy of their DVD, Gymathtics to review as part of the TOS Homeschool Crew prduct reviews this year.
The Exploracise Gymathtics program combines an exercise regimen with math and healthy lifestyle concepts that target grades 2nd through 5th. It can also be used for all ages. The people exercising in this DVD represent a wide range of ages (elementary age to teens).
During the warm up stretch time, you are introduced to simple geometry concepts, the calisthenics portion includes counting principles such as skip counting and even/odd numbers, and then go into an exercise section that teaches basic patterns. At the end, during cool down period, you hear messages that reinforce good health practices. My daughters and I enjoyed the workout routine since it was easy enough for my youngest without being too difficult but enough a an exercise that we all got something out of it. The math was a good review of some simple concepts.
The idea behind the program is that it uses a multisensory approach to learning. You can read about the research from their website here.
Overall I felt that is was a good kids’ workout that has the extra benefit of reinforcing some basic math and health concepts throughout the exercise.
They also have other products available at their website. You can purchase the Gymathtics DVD for $24.99.
