TOS Homeschool Review: Amazing Bible World History Timeline
Ok. One thing for our homeschool that I have had trouble finding was something that showed Biblical events and people meshed in with secular worldly events and such. You probably know what I mean. You get a history book or timeline and see either Biblical stuff or secular history with no references to the Bible. I was searching for something that showed both. When I heard that I was going to receive a free copy of the Amazing Bible World History Timeline from Bible Charts and Maps, LLC, I was excited to see this product in person.
Here is a look at this product and what I first saw when I received it:

I say that because it is so huge (38″ x 46″) and there is so much detail that the print is small so you almost need a magnifying glass to read some of it. I admit I was overwhelmed at first. Maybe still am. I will be honest that I have not begun to go over each and every item listed on it. In this review I am going to primarily give my opinion on it as just a timeline since there may be items on it that do not exactly fall within what I personally believe. I know there are Mormon references on it and some folks have mentioned other things that they disagree with as well. I feel that is up to you to decide on your own how you handle items like that in the curriculum and resources you use. The company who makes this timeline also has an LDS version. They had this to say about the timeline I reviewed when some of my crew members pointed out to them that our timeline also had Mormon references in our version.
” Unfortunately after the printing in 2000, Fedex destroyed our original film. We recreated it using the LDS version by removing all of the dates we had added. Unfortunately we either missed one or on the last reprinting (2009) the opaquing film fell off that one date. We apologize and are working with the printer to remove it.” I bring this up to you to make a decision yourself since I do not feel that it is my responsibility to decide how you handle those things. Since this company is not partial to any specific faith having not made any statement that they are a company producing items for a certain group of believers, I have to say that you need to be aware of that when you decide for yourself on this product. If you can get past potentially questionable items on it then I believe it is a good timeline. I plan to handle it by pointing out the items we as a family do not agree with as Bible believing Christians. We have studied other religions as a family and at our church so I feel fairly confident that we will not be swayed falsely by some of the items that may be on this timeline. That said you can read what my fellow TOS Crew Members have to say about it here.
Now, I will go on to describe the timeline in a little more detail.
First of all what exactly is this timeline? As you can see, the timeline is circular instead of one that goes in one direction. Several people have placed this timeline on their tables covered with some type of clear covering over it , and others have placed it on their walls. So far I have just taken it out and put it on the floor when we wanted to look at it. It is made of a sturdy cardstock material with a coating on the printed side so it is fairly durable. It has divisions that allow you to easily see AD versus BC and has an index on it so you can find events and other items that you may be interested in viewing. The timeline is also color coded so that you can also identify like items such as events, related activities and families and nations. What is nice is that you can see how various events and people overlap and fit in with each other. Often history is learned and you are unaware of where events fall in relation to each other or when people lived and the timing of things that you study. Having the Amazing Bible World History Timeline, we were able to look up events and see what other activities took place at the same time. For example, were you aware that Daniel and Confucius lived in the same century? We plan on using the timeline in order to find other events and items to study and to help us put things in perspective.
Information on the background of this timeline as well as the references and research used in creating this timeline can be viewed at their website here.
You can view a close up portion of the timeline at their website at http://bibletimeline.net/bibletimeline_closeup.html.

I wanted to point out that after I wrote this review, I found an online Mormon publication that seemed to imply that the Agards who created and sell this timeline are Mormon missionaries. I do not know what their faith currently is and have not been unable to determine this by any reliable facts but thought I would share this so you can do your own research. I know as Christian I expect the products that I purchase that are being sold as a Christian product to disclose where the company stands on the position of their faith and their belief statement. The creators of this timeline shy away from this so I felt the need to point this out to my Blog readers as a point of consciousness from myself. I write this review trying to give the product itself a fair view but feel the need to make sure my readers are aware that I am not endorsing it from the point of view of a Christian because some of its contents may not be inline with your own beliefs. That is my honest assessment at this time.
