TOS Homeschool Crew Review: Guardian Angel Publishing
Guardian Angel Publishing is a company that publishes books in many formats (print form, e-books, as well as cd versions). As a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew this year I was given 6 books in e-book form to review for them. They carry a variety of books that are of interest for kids 0-12 years old. I can say that even I enjoyed some of them as much as my kids.
The first book we read together was Hamster Holidays: Noun and Adjective Adventures of The Pet Grammar Parade Series by Cynthia Reeg.
This book was both entertaining as well as educational. As you read about the hamsters and their holiday celebrations, the adjectives are printed in red and the nouns are displayed in blue. There is an introduction before the story begins that gives a brief instruction on the various types of nouns as well as discusses adjectives. The illustrations are very amusing to go along with the whimsical mood of the story. After the story there is a short study guide that teaches more about nouns and adjectives and has some activities to go along with what was learned through the book. The next book we read, Maybe We Are Flamingos, by Safari Suzie Thurman. was one of their favorites. This story is a delightful tale about two young flamingos who are upset that they do not look like the others because they had yet to become pink. They soon learn how long and what it takes before this change happens to them. The reader not only learns a little science along the way but some values and a moral as well. Again Guardian Angel Publishing takes their books beyond being mere stories and makes them educational which is what I have learned to like about this company. In the story the flamingos do some art work in order to deal with waiting to become pink. We took this concept and did a little art as well which made this story even more special for my kids. No Bones About It: The Sum of Our Parts Series was a book that fits well with learning about the various bones of the body.
It had clever rhymes to help teach about the various bones and where they fit together to form what is our skeleton. It also had many facts about bones throughout the book. The illustrations were amusing to my kids since they had eyes on the various bones which attempted to make them have a life of their own. Since we have been studying the human body this year it was a nice addition to our electronic library. It can be purchased at their website with the following pricing:

Andy and Spirit Goes To The Fair is about Andy, who is in a wheelchair, and an albino horse named Spirit and what challenges they face as they go to the fair having been entered in a 4-H competition. Since my kids take riding lessons and are learning about showmanship they both enjoyed reading about Andy and Spirit. After the story there is an additional item entitled, How Wild Horses are Managed in the U. S.

The book, Earthquake!, is full of information about earthquakes as well as helpful guidelines and practical advice to keep you safe in the event of one. This was a book that we read through a few times in order to absorb all the information within it.

Lastly was another favorite of ours, Rainbow Sheep.
It was a very creative story about a a shepherdess, her sheep and a sad rainbow. What could possibly bring a smile to this rainbow? The illustrations were photos of felted fiber creations. All in all we enjoyed reading these books together. I liked the books we received from Guardian Angel Publishing because they offered more to us beyond just being stories or as informational books.
